When viewing your experiment analytics in GemX, you may see a message like:
| “Neither version outperforms the other in Conversion rate, Average order value & Revenue per visitor. Keep the test running to gather more data.” |
This message appears when GemX does not detect a clear performance difference between your Control and Variant yet.
This article explains what that means, why it happens, and how to decide whether to continue or stop your experiment.
What “No Clear Winner” Means in A/B Testing
On the experiment analytics page, GemX evaluates your variations based on:

Winning metric (e.g., Conversion)

Conversion rate
-
Average order value (AOV)
-
Revenue per visitor (RPV)
-
Traffic distribution (e.g., 50/50 split)

Test duration
If the performance gap between Control and Variant is small, unstable, or still fluctuating, GemX will not declare a winner.

This does not mean:

Your experiment failed

Your variation is ineffective

The data is incorrect
It simply means there is not enough stable evidence yet to confidently favor one version.
Common Reasons You Don’t See a Winner
1. Not Enough Traffic
Low traffic is the most common reason.
If each version has only a small number of sessions or conversions, daily results can swing up and down quickly. A small difference, such as a few extra conversions, may look meaningful at first but is often just a normal fluctuation.
What to do:

Let the test continue running

Avoid making decisions based on early data spikes
2. The Test Hasn’t Run Long Enough
Even if traffic is decent, a short test duration can produce unstable results.
For example:

Weekday traffic may behave differently from weekend traffic

Promotional periods may temporarily impact performance
As a general guideline:

Run experiments for at least 7 full days

If traffic is moderate or low, consider 14 days or more
Check the Test duration field at the top of your experiment dashboard before deciding.

3. The Difference Between Variants Is Too Small
Sometimes your change is too subtle to produce a strong behavioral impact.

If both versions show very similar:

How to Evaluate Your Experiment in GemX
Before making a decision, review these key areas inside the analytics dashboard.
1. Check the Winning Metric
At the top of the page, confirm your selected Winning metric (for example, Conversion).
Make sure you are evaluating the right primary goal for your experiment.
2. Review Traffic Split
Look at the Traffic split (e.g., 50/50).
A balanced split ensures both versions receive comparable exposure. If one version receives significantly less traffic, results may take longer to stabilize.
3. Review Test Duration
Check how long the experiment has been running.
If it has been live for only a few days, the lack of a winner is expected. Stability typically improves over time.
4. Compare Core Metrics
Click “View all metrics” to analyze:

Conversion rate

Average order value
-
Revenue per visitor
-
Sessions

Look for consistent trends over multiple days, not just a single-day spike.
If the performance gap frequently flips between Control and Variant, it usually indicates that more data is needed.
When You Should Continue Running the Test
You should continue the experiment if:

It has been running for less than 7 days

Traffic volume is still low
-
Metrics fluctuate frequently
-
The performance difference is minimal
In these cases, allowing more time improves data reliability.
When You Can Consider Stopping the Test
You may consider ending the experiment if:

It has run for at least 7–14 days

Both versions have sufficient traffic

One version shows consistent improvement over multiple days
-
No major traffic or campaign disruptions occurred during the test
If those conditions are met, you can:

End the experiment

Apply the better-performing version

What You Should Avoid When There Is No Clear Winner
To maintain experiment integrity, do not:

Stop the test after a single day of strong performance

Restart the experiment repeatedly

Change the traffic split while the test is live

These actions interrupt data consistency and reset learning progress.
If Both Versions Perform Similarly
Sometimes, there is simply no meaningful difference between versions.
This is not a failure. It provides useful insight:
