Definition

Experiment

An experiment is a setup designed to compare the performance of two or more variations (variants) of a webpage or interface (template). The goal is to identify which version drives higher conversion rates and optimize the overall conversion rate (CRO) for your Shopify store.

Templates

Templates are essential for controlling the layout and appearance of your online store. You can assign any page, product/collection, or article to a template in your store or directly in the GemPages editor.

Pages

Individual web pages on your site. Each has a unique URL and specific role (e.g., Home, Landing, Product, Collection, Blog Post), forming key parts of the user journey.

Control

The Control (also known as the Control Group or Control Variant) is the original or default version of a webpage, interface (template), or element being tested.

Variant

This is the experimental version you’re testing against the Control. Its URL is managed by the Control. When a visitor lands on a page in the Variant group, all subsequent pages will remain in this group for consistent testing results.
