This article walks you through how to combine using GemX and GemPages to design variants and launch your experiments in minutes without coding.
Important Notes Before You Start
Before creating your first A/B test, make sure everything is ready to sync between GemPages and GemX:
-
GemPages Page Builder is installed on your Shopify store.
-
GemX is installed to run A/B tests, track performance, and publish test variants.
Once both apps are installed, GemX automatically detects all GemPages templates. You’ll be able to:
-
Choose any GemPages template as your Control or Variant.
-
Design and edit variants directly inside the GemPages Editor.
-
Launch, monitor, and manage experiments entirely within GemX, without manual setup, code pasting, or additional configuration.
The integration is already built in, so there’s no activation step or manual connection required.
How the GemX <> GemPages Integration Works
GemX and GemPages are deeply integrated to give you a smooth, code-free workflow: design > experiment > results.

Automatic Template Sync
Any template you create in GemPages automatically appears inside GemX as a selectable template. GemX reads the template structure and treats it as a testable version you can assign as Control or Variant.
One-Click Variant Creation
If you start from GemPages, you can open the GemX panel in the Editor and create variants instantly.
If you start from GemX, you can duplicate your Control template, and GemX will redirect you directly into the GemPages Editor to customize the variant.
No Manual Setup Required
Once both apps are installed, the integration works automatically in the background, including:
-
No scripts to add
-
No theme edits
-
No toggles to activate
Option 1: Run an Experiment Directly from GemPages
This workflow is ideal if you’re already inside the GemPages Editor and want to test design changes quickly.
Step 1: Open Your Template in the GemPages Editor
-
Go to GemPages Dashboard > Pages.
-
Select the product page or landing page you want to test to open the Editor.
Step 2: Access the GemX panel inside the Editor
-
Once entered the Editor, click on the GemX icon in the left sidebar.

-
You’ll see the GemX panel right inside the Editor.

-
Click Create experiment variant. Then, your template will be automatically selected as the Control template.

Important note: Ensure that your template is published to create an experiment. If your template is in Draft, you need to publish it first.
Step 3: Customize the Variant template
A copy of your template is automatically generated and serves as the Variant template. Click on the pen icon to edit it in the Editor.

Then, you’ll be redirected to a new window.

From here, use any GemPages’ pre-built elements and sections to customize the Variant template as you prefer based on your hypothesis.
For example, follow this hypothesis:
Visitors may hesitate to add the product to the cart because the current product page does not provide enough clarity or confidence at the point of decision.
By (1) making the Add to Cart button more visually prominent, (2) adding an estimated delivery date to reduce uncertainty about shipping, and (3) adding a concise Product Details section near the product images to help shoppers quickly understand what they’re buying, we expect visitors to feel more informed and more motivated to purchase.
Therefore, these changes will increase the product page’s add-to-cart rate and overall conversion rate.

Once satisfied, click Save and Publish to publish your Variant template.
Step 5: Run Your Experiment
Click on the GemX icon to open the settings panel.
Under the 2. Run experiment section, hit the Change button to:

-
Adjust the Traffic split:

-
Set the Primary goal that most’s important to you for this test.

-
Select the Target of your experiment.

Once done, click Start experiment to launch your test.

Pro tip: For more options, including preview experiment, rename it, or copy the experiment link, you can choose from the three-dot button.

Result:
If your experiment is live, the GemX panel will appear as shown below.

Pro tip: Go to GemX to access the full settings and analytics. You can monitor real-time data in the GemX dashboard.
Option 2: Create an Experiment from GemX Dashboard
You can also set up your experiment entirely from the GemX dashboard.

How Templates Sync Between GemX and GemPages
Automatic Sync
All your published templates built with GemPages instantly appear inside GemX as a selectable Control or Variant. Also, template names, versions, and publish states are always up to date.

Separate Variant Versions
When you duplicate a template from GemX, GemX creates a separate variant template inside GemPages. You can edit this variant without affecting the original Control template.

All variant changes remain isolated until the experiment ends or a winner is chosen.
Editing During Experiments
You can still edit templates in GemPages while an experiment is active by clicking on the Edit experiment button.

Then, hover over each template and hit the pen icon to edit it in GemPages Editor.

Your changes will update instantly on the live variant, but avoid major structural changes unless necessary.
