How to View and Read Template Testing Experiment Analytics

To optimize your conversion rates and validate every change you make, understanding GemX’s analytics dashboard is crucial.

If you’re running a Template Testing experiment, this guide will walk you through how to access, read, and act on your experiment data inside the GemX app.

Before you begin: Make sure you’ve installed GemX and successfully created and activated an experiment. If not, start here:

How to View Experiment Analytics on GemX

Step 1: Access the Analytics Dashboard

  • Open the GemX app and navigate to the Experiments tab.

  • Find your Template Testing Experiment and click the Analytics icon on the right-hand side. You’ll now see the analytics dashboard for your experiment.

Step 2: Choose a View Mode

GemX supports two View by modes to help you analyze how users interact with your experiment page:

View by Sessions start with page

  • Only includes sessions where the experiment page was the first page viewed.

  • Metrics such as conversion rate, bounce rate, and engagement are calculated based on this specific session type.

View by All Sessions

  • Includes every session where the experiment page was viewed — regardless of when it appeared in the user’s journey.

  • Metrics are calculated using this broader session set, giving you a complete picture of user behavior.

Step 3: Understand the Analytics Sections

Experiment Information

This section displays advanced configuration details of your experiment, including:


  • Winning metric (e.g., Conversion Rate, Revenue)

  • Device targeting

  • Total visitors

  • Traffic sources

  • Traffic split between Control and Variant

  • Test duration

Performance Summary

Here’s where you see how each variant is performing.

View All Metrics: Compare all key performance metrics between Control and Variant (e.g., Sessions, Orders, Revenue, CR).

Make Winner Button Use this when you’re ready to finalize your test.

Once your test has collected enough data, the "Make Winner" feature lets you:

  • Declare a winning variant (e.g., Control A or Variant B)

  • Apply the winning template to your store

  • This process may vary slightly based on template type (e.g., Homepage, Product Page, Landing Page)

To use “Make Winner”:

  • Ensure your experiment has been completed or has sufficient data.

  • From the GemX sidebar, go to the Experiment Dashboard.

  • Click the three-dot icon (⋯) next to your experiment.

  • Select Choose winner and confirm the variant you want to apply.

Performance Over Time Section

This graph-based section lets you visualize performance trends over time.

You’ll see:

  • Total sessions

  • Total visitors

  • Total orders

  • Total revenue

You can:

  • Click “Expand to enlarge the chart.

  • Change the metric shown using the pen icon on the right-hand side of each metric.

Path Analysis

Track the user journey through your tested template. The Path Analysis section is only shown for customers on the Funnel Optimize plan.

  • Column 1: The current page (URL) being analyzed.

  • Column 2: Next most-visited page (based on session count).

Example: If Page A has 10 sessions, and most of them go to Product A → Column 2 = Product A

  • Column 3: Number of sessions that added to cart.

  • Column 4: Number of sessions that reached checkout.

  • Column 5: Number of sessions that completed checkout.

You can switch between the Control and Variant tabs to compare user paths for both templates.

Source Segment Section

Breakdown of where your traffic comes from:

Visitors by type:

  • New: First-time visitors

  • Returning: Repeat visitor

Sessions by device type:

  • Desktop

  • Mobile

  • Tablet

Sessions by traffic source:

  • Organic

  • Direct

  • Paid

  • Referral, etc.
